WELCOME TO THE OPHA WEBSITE

We hope that you find this web site useful, informative and entertaining. Our goal is to promote the Peruvian Paso breed without distancing our selves from it's origin and the 400 years of tradition and culture that this magnificent horse has been a part of since the Spanish brought their ancestor to South and Central America.

Val and Norman Henderson of Beaconhurst Stable are pleased to announce the long awaited arrival of  B.H.S. Centenario!!!

So named as he was born on the same day that our Canadian Navy celebrated their one hundredth anniversary.

However, Centenario's story really began two years ago when we purchased his sire H.S.D.O. Cascabel de Musante from the renowned breeder and international judge of Peruvian horses, Annette Kart of Hacienda Sol de Oro, California.  In March of 2008, after making the long trek from California to Kentucky, young Cascabel met with Norman to continue his journey to Kendal, Ontario.  Undaunted by the mountains of snow and frigid temperatures that greeted him in his new home, this lovely colt met his new life with the calmness and dignity of a true champion.  We were immediately impressed by his wonderful disposition and regal bearing which truly reflected his noble lineage.  His sire, H.S.D.O. Cascabel de Grania (J) was featured in the Peruvian Digest magazine, known to all as the iron horse.  21 years old, sound, fit and still performing Enfrenadura!  Both his sire and his dam, H.S.D.O. Minerva truly reflect the lifetime of dedication Annette has given to preserving and improving the fine qualities of our breed that make them so special.

When in the following year Annette offered to sell us her wonderful mare, J.J.B.N Hoya Dos, Norman was on his way back to Kentucky without hesitation.  Hoya travelled from one of the largest haciendas of Peruvian horses in Guatemala, to Miami Florida, to Malibu California, then to Frankfurt Kentucky where with help from Keith and Lois Worden, she met Norman and came home to us in Kendal.  Whew!!!  And what a fabulous mare she is!  Noble, does not begin to describe our Guatemala queen.  Shortly after arriving, she was bred to Cascabel and well . . .

But that is where our story truly begins as with the arrival of such a fine colt, we hope to continue breeding select high quality Peruvians which we will train here at Beaconhurst and then offer for sale.  Who knows, perhaps soome day one will find it's way back to California!!

We hope you enjoy the photos.

Val and Norman
